Why a Regular Visit to the Tracks is Important
You can never hope to be an expert at handicapping horse races if you don't include a regular visit to the racetracks as part of your schedule. At the very least, you should be able to watch the horses in action on TV or online. You might wonder why this is necessary when you have a racing guide in which to work on. Isn't that enough?
While you can get vital information from a racing form, nothing beats seeing the horses live in action. If you want to truly make your bets profitable, you have to see the races in order to observe, first and foremost, the ability of a horse. As you become more adept at observing each equine, you will be able to determine the ability of a horse. You will be able to gauge its running style and its "heart" to race. By "heart" is meant a horse's penchant to fight to the very end or its propensity to lag behind when it knows it has no chance of outrunning the lead.
More often than not, these are the kinds of horses who know their limits. And they can be difficult horses to handicap especially when they're moving up or down a class. A horse that ends up last in a particular race can't right away be judged as a poor contender-- if you've observed it long enough to know that it has the ability to place in near the top when it knows it can run neck-and-neck with the competition or that it has that uncanny character trait of lagging way behind if it knows that the competition is much too strong for it.
You can only determine this kind of behavior through keen and regular observance of the horses on the track. And when that horse moves down in class, you will definitely consider it part of your top contenders.
If you want to make money from your bets, you'll have to visit the tracks regularly. Otherwise, you'll be missing out on valuable information that could help you make bets that are profitable.
See you at the racetracks!
