Steps to Be Able to Watch a Live Triple Crown Race
Nothing beats the thrill of being able to watch the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes or the Belmont Stakes live in their respective racetracks. You may be able to get better views of the race and its results on television, but nothing beats being amidst the wild cheers of the crowd at the stadium of a graded 1 stakes race.
If you're a true horse racing aficionado, you would at least try at least once to get the chance to watch these events (and place your wager, too) live. Here are the steps you should follow to be able to do exactly that:
- Know the month of the year when these races occur so you can prepare your funds beforehand. The Kentucky Derby occurs on the first Saturday of May, the Preakness on the third Saturday also in May and the Belmont Stakes in June. Check out tv guides or the sports section of a newspaper for actual schedules. You can also do this online.
- Request tickets in advance from the official websites of these races. Make your reservations at least a month before the actual event to facilitate timely delivery.
- If you weren't able to reserve a ticket, you can still show up at the racetrack for the Kentucky Derby and buy a general admission ticket at gate three. For the Preakness and Belmont Stakes, you can also buy tickets at the entrance on race day itself.
- Book a plane ticket to Kentucky, Maryland or New York for these three derbies respectively. You can also choose to go on a road trip or travel by Long Island Rail for the Belmont Stakes.
- Show up on race day, bet for your favorites and enjoy the tradition and experience live!
Nothing beats watching a Triple Crown Race in the flesh. The excitement of watching your bet cross the finish line is nothing short of amazing. You can always watch the details and get a clearer view on tv later, but on race day, be sure to get dressed, bring your video or camera and just savor the whole experience.
